I've had this receiver for almost two years now. It is one of the wisest consumer purchase decisions I have ever made.
Given the subjectiveness and complexity of these machines, I don't really know how to go about reviewing this marvelous piece of stereo equipment, but I'll try.
The sound is just brilliant! Detailed and fast and focused. Power is plentiful unless you have some majorly insensitive speakers. They drive my Infinity Overture 1s very cleanly, but then again, these are ultra-sensitive speakers with built-in subwoofer amplifiers.
Usability is excellent. No problems to report on this end except you can't access all it's features unless you go through the onscreen display. Then again since it is a home THEATER receiver, you should have a display. It just would have been nice to access all the features from just the remote.
Dolby Digital performance is excellent. The DACs on straight stereo are excellent. Two coaxial digital inputs and a toslink input are available. The remote is fine and glows in the dark and doesn't look stupid and bulky like too many remotes I've used.
No DTS capability but I really don't care. Has a 6-channel output decoder so future DAC expansion for DTS and DVD-Audio 96khz, yada yada is fine. Also has a pre-out for the front channels. Very nice.
Build quality is excellent. It seems to be sturdier than the current x800 series Denon receivers.
All in all, a most satisfying piece of gear. I don't think I'll be upgrading for another two years. Imagine that! A consumer item that has a life of more than a couple years! Now that's praise since it's coming from an upgrade junkie like me.
