Pros: Simple to set up, good speed and it is huge
Cons: No Mac OSX software
The Bottom Line: It works very well. It requires MacOS 9 to use the provided formatting software. After formatting is works perfectly in Mac OS X. Huge drive, good response time, quiet.

| datkinso's Full Review: Acomdata HD120FE 120GB 7200RPM FIREWIRE HD |
This drive supports USB 1 and 2.0 and FireWire although only a desperate person would use USB 1 for a hard drive. I use the unit on a Macintosh running OS 10.2.3 using the firewire port. I had to boot into OS 9.2.2 to use the provided formatting software to reformat the drive as HFS . It comes formatted for PC. Reformatting and making three partitions took about three minutes including learning the unfamiliar application. It was pretty much a no-brainer.
After rebooting back into OS X everything has worked fine. I use Retrospect Express to back up my machine and it has functioned perfectly with this unit. Time for importing CD's using iTunes is equal to or even a little faster than importing to the internal hard drive.
The unit is not extremely small and it has a small transformer in the power cord (about the size of a cigarette pack). I'm not sure you would want to pack it around school all day long but it is no big deal to bring it home on occasion. But when you consider that it formats at over 117 gb, that much space would have weighed 20 pounds about two years ago. The case looks fine, not boxy or some strange color.
The take home is that it works as advertised, it is fast, quiet and stable. You can't ask for too much more from a hard drive.
