| soupcraze's Full Review: KLIPSCHORN Main / Stereo Speaker |
The Klipsch Klipschorn speakers are what define stereophile quality. Like Bose, Klipsch entered the audio market based on a different kind of technology. Klipsch uses horn drivers to drive out more powerful and detailed sound. Some people have said that horn technology is out of date like Bose's prices on their paper driven speakers... But still, if horn speakers sound so "bad", why are they still considered some of the best in the world? The Klipsch Klipschorn have been made for more than 50 years, and they continue to impress.
Price:
These speakers can be purchased in the price range of $5,000 or anywhere in the thousands. I've seen some in the $5k rangr, and some cost as much as $6k flat. So you really gotta look around for the best deal. Since these speakers haven't undergone change for decades, I suggest that you actually look at websites like eBay where they can be pruchased around $1,000 or so for some that were built in the 80's or some time which was a few decades ago. Well, I believe that these speakers are worth every penny. They will make music the way music was meant to be heard. However, this requires expensive audiophile equipment. The equipment that I heard the Klipsch Klipschorn speakers on was Krell, and Krell doesn't come cheap. Overall, if you're looking for nearly perfect audiophile sound, I would greatly encourage you to buy the Klipsch Klipschorn speakers. They are works of art, and a true masterpiece in acoustic technology. Competition? Sure these things go against brands like Magnepan and B&W, but the Klipsch Klipschorn speakers have a unique sound to them which can overcome Maggies and B&Ws if they are used with the right kind of equipment.
Durability:
Without any doubt, these speakers are built to last and last. Most people that own these bought them a long time ago, and they still manage to work as great as they did before. The cabinets used are high quality and very sturdy, and Klipsch has been making speakers for decades, and the drivers that they use are built right. Powerful, and built to go on forever and ever. If you want speakers that you can pass down through your family's generations, then these are a great pair.
Looks and Styling:
The Klipsch Klipschorn speakers aren't conventional looking spakers. Most speakers have drivers that fire forward, and have a grille protecting them. However, the Klipsch Klipschorn speakers include more than one cabinet to house the different drivers, and they can also be positioned into different directions. These speakers are more like works of art, they will catch the eyes of viewers and listeners. It's something different, something that is truly unique and impressive.
Sound:
The Klipsch Klipschorn speakers go two ways from here. They can either sound terrible, or they can sound like... norhing that can truly be explained in words. If you're using cheaper equipment or bad recordings, the quality will show through the speakers. The midrange will pretty bad if you're using poor quality stuff to run the speakers. The Klipsch Klipschorn are so good, that they will let you know if you're using bad equipment or listening to bad recordings. However, if you're listening to the "right stuff", these speakers will truly shine. Everything will come out so smoothly, every little sound shall be heard. The horn drivers really add intensity to the music, it's like there's a fire burning with them. The speakers are just like listening to live music. If you get highs from music, then these are the ultimate highs. However, a downside for some people is that you do need a pretty large room, and these speakers are built to be placed into the corners for an increased bass response, and the other ranges are further increased. The sound that is created by the reflections in the corner create a much warmer sound, like a warm comfy blanket right on top of you. Placement is very important for the Klipsch Klipschorn speakers. However, if you get everything right, these speakers will shine like a bright star. If you're not using the right equipment, you'll be dissapointed. So don't listen to what others say about these speakers. Horn drivers have proved to be very efficient for decades, and they still prove to be excellent for many audiophiles. So listen to what these speakers play, and listen to what you, and ONLY YOU think about these. Believe me, you'll be impressed.
Bass:
The woofers fire the sound into the corner, so therefore there is an extended and much stronger bass response due to the reflections of bass of the walls. The bass that comes from the Klipsch Klipschorn speakers is very clean and powerful. It doesn't sound very exaggerated or anything. I think that these do perform pretty well without a powered subwoofer, but if you still need heavy deep bass, then maybe you should also get a subwoofer.
The Verdict:
The Klipsch Klipschorn speakers prove that some technology doesn't die. The horn drivers used by Klipsch have amazed people many years ago, and haven't ceased to impress audiophiles to this day. The Klipsch Klipschorn is a symbol of power, beauty, and it also defines what music is. Just use these speakers with the right equipment, music, and placement... And you've got yourself a system that simply can't be beat.
