| jag2112's Full Review: Now Hear This SuperCenter Center Speaker |
When shopping around for a new audio/visual entertainment system, it's important to know how to mix and match your audio components - especially the speakers. Some will tell you that mixing brands doesn't harm your overall system. That might be true, depending on the system and peripherals you choose. But if you come across a brand of speakers that are typically superior to those counterparts costing many times more, then you're best bet is to stick with one brand.
Such was the case, as my earlier reviews have shown, when I decided on NHT speakers for my Home Theater set up. I opted for 4 SuperZeroes to fill my right, left and surround sound components. I was about to select a 5th NHT SuperZero as my center channel, but I knew I wanted a little more umph there. As such, the SuperCenter was just the ticket I was searching for. Perfectly paired with the Super Zeroes (and the Sub One Sub Woofer), the Super Center delivers clear, crisp and tight sounds, but it never overpowers its counterparts. That's the key of matching your speakers - never get some that will overpower the others, otherwise you're left with muddled and uneven sound.
The speaker comes in an attractive high-gloss black finish. It looks great when clean, but it can show fingerprints quite easily. The speaker also comes with a face plate, which isn't shown on the Epinions picture. And at 13+ lbs, this speaker isn't a light weight. Make sure you have a proper support structure for it.
Set up is a snap with the 5-way binding posts. Banana clips are certainly recommended here with a high gauge speaker cable, but your preferences may vary.
As indicated on NHT's web site:
Affordable high-performance NHT home theater is easier than ever with the SuperCenter. This attractive center channel speaker is a perfect match for the SuperZero (original or Xu), SuperOne (original or Xu) and SuperTwo.
The SuperCenter uses the same tweeter found in all Performance Series products and is voiced identically, for a seamless tonal balance. Its compact size and video shielding allow easy placement on any type of television. As NHT’s most affordable center channel speaker, the SuperCenter brings refined performance to more homes than ever before!
That pretty much says it all. And for around $300, it's hard to beat. Even if your other components are not NHT, consider the Super Center for its clarity, performance and high quality.
