Pros: Drop-dead gorgeous screen, excellent price point, multiple inputs, flexible stand.
Cons: Though flexible, the stand seems a little unsteady. Some frustrating on-screen commands/options (or lack thereof)
The Bottom Line: The 2007FP has a certain WOW factor to it. If you're in the market for a new Flat Panel, this Dell offering is one to check out.

| jag2112's Full Review: Dell UltraSharp¿ 2007FP (Black) 20.1" LCD Monitor |
It's been five years since I purchased a new PC for our home use. The last PC I purchased was one of the first Pentium IV Dell's that hit the market. Now after putting it through its paces, I decided it was time for a complete upgrade. The good thing about waiting 5 years before replacing your PC is that everything - and I mean everything - is new and improved.
There was no question that I'd be replacing my old 19" CRT Monitor with a thin, modern, flat panel display. But the size of the new monitor was my initial stumbling block. Coming off a 19" CRT, I wanted something comparable in size, if not bigger. Understanding that measurements of CRTs versus Flat Panels differ (CRT measurements include the case where Flat Panels are true measurements of the viewable screen), I initially looked at 17" flat panels but when I came across the Dell 2007FP 20.1 inch Flat Panel, I almost instantly fell in love.
Ok - well, not 'love' but this was one impressive monitor at an equally impressive price point.
With a maximum resolution of a very respectable 1600x1200 pixels and a response time of 16 ms (which allows for crisp images and beautiful fast-motion video), it was clear that this monitor would be on par with nearly any CRT out there. The 2007FP also offers up a high contrast ratio of 800:1 which is important is creating sharp, crisp lines and images. Also of importance is the wide viewing angle range. Despite being a LCD, you can view this monitor from a wide variety of angles without loss of image clarity and color -- a bonus when you had kids looking on from all angles.
Dell also thought out the wide range of uses for this monitor beyond computing. As such, a nice variety of inputs including Digital Video (DVI-D), S-Video and Composite Video are included, as are several up and down-stream USB 2.0 connections. There's also an audio jack for speaker use.
Dell also put a lot of design effort into the monitor stand which allows a wide range of movement and flexibility. On the Y-base stand, the monitor can be swiveled from a portrait to landscape mode, though it feels a little unsteady at the portrait position. The stand is also height adjustable from a range of 1 inch to 5 inches. Further, you can tilt the monitor forward or back and swivel it up to 45 degrees to the right or left. Though the tight quarters of my computer armoire don't allow me to fully exploit all of these movements, it's nice to know the option to do so is there.
The 2007FP offers a wide array of on-screen programming options, though some questionable oversights, like the lack of a dedicated brightness or contrast button, is a bit frustrating. Fortunately, after my initial set up, I've had no need to adjust those settings whatsoever.
I've also noticed, though can not quite substantiate, that the 2007FP may need a slight 'warm-up' period after powering it up. It honestly may be my own experience or my aging eyes, but the monitor seems a touch darker when I first turn it on versus having had it on for several minutes. No one else in my family seems to notice this, but they aren't quite as discerning over these type of issues as I am.
Overall, at a price point in the $500 range, which is well below other comparable 20" Flat Panel monitors, Dell has a clear winner with the 2007FP.
I can't recommend it enough.
