Pros: Entertaining, effective. Can run unsupervised.
Cons: gets tangled up in carpet tassels.
The Bottom Line: If you've got the $$, get one. It's effective, fairly efficient, and amusing.

| petermuir's Full Review: iRobot 4230 Scheduler Robotic Vacuum |
We were given this as a Christmas present by my father-in-law, who is a real gadget-lover, and has an older model.
It does a surprisingly good job. As mentioned elsewhere, it takes longer than dragging out the vacuum cleaner and doing it yourself; that's where the scheduling comes in handy. Of course, the first few times you run it, you'll want to watch it work -- it's really surprisingly entertaining.
One downside is that it tends to get hung up on rug fringes, which is a problem in our living room. Since we have two rugs with fringes in our living room, we can't easily let it run there unsupervised, but elsewhere we do.
It comes with two electronic 'virtual walls' that you can use to restrict it to a part of the house without closing doors, etc.
For best results, you need to pick up shoes, books on the floor by the bed, etc (which you should do anyhow, but I often don't.
If you don't run it often, it'll stop when its dirt reservoir is full, which can be discouraging. On the other hand, the greenie in me likes not having bags to toss (and buy.)
It does much better on bare floors than I would have expected -- it picks up surprising amounts of stuff. We're an animal household, though, so there's a constant crop of dog hair to harvest...
And, when it's done, it migrates back to its docking station and recharges itself.
Our eight-year-old has been made the "Roombanator" and it's nice to give him the responsibility for cleaning.
