redoncrim's Full Review: Sony Mic n Micro M-100MC Handheld Cassette Voice R...
Sonys Mic n Micro M-100MC has to rate extremely high in the competitive market of micro cassette recorders. I have had two Olympus hand held recorders in the last three years and both were nowhere near as good as this one.
Design:
Smaller than you might imagine. Pictures on the internet make it look bigger. It actually measures 5 inches X 2.5 inches , about the size of your average digital camera. It is comfortable to hold and has an attached strap for carrying around (again like a digital camera). It also comes with a built in stand and sits firmly on this for lectures, dictation etc. The design cannot be faulted in my opinion.
Features:
This recorder has so much to offer .
There are 3 mic modes - Lecture, Meeting and Dictation.
A three stage LED battery life indicator.
Voice Operated Recording function to help minimize unwanted sounds and react on voice.
2 tape speeds to get the most out of your tape length. 2.4cm and 1.2cm.
Fast playback and pause buttons.
Rewind and Fast Forward buttons.
Cue Marker Indexing to put an electronic mark on different parts of the tape. This also has a Cue and Review facility.
Clear Voice sound system for crystal clear playback.
Wind screen for microphone head.
Takes standard micro cassettes and 2 X AA batteries.
My opinion:
I have tested this recorder in all recording modes and I must say, in all three recording situations, the result is the same. All have very good, clear recordings. The clarity of the recordings is far superior to the two Olympus recorders I have used. Whether used on 2.4 or 1.2 speed the result is equally positive. The quality you lose for twice the length of recording is negligible. A word of warning however the microphone is sensitive and will pick up any heavy noise directly nearby.
I love the beautiful design of this recorder. It is lightweight , so easy to use and very stable on the cute little stand. Battery consumption appears to be very economical and the cassettes are so cheap these days.
If you are a student or a professional, this is an excellent recorder at a very affordable price. I shall be keeping this until it dies on me. When that happens I will be looking for another exactly the same!
