This burner has worked with every type of media it advertises. DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW. I have only produced a few coasters but that was only when the drive itself had a problem, which was quickly rectified (see below).
TDK has been good with keeping their website up-to-date with the latest firmware updates and when I did run into a minor manufacturer's defect, they quickly replaced my unit with a brand new one.
The Roxio software that was included with the drive is simple enough to burn CDs, DVDs and author DVDs. I would suggest using a different program if you're trying to make a backup copy of a DVD though.
