Pros: This is a great sounding microphone. Cons: None.
SHURE SM58 DYNAMIC VOCAL MIC WITH SWITCH The Shure SM58 is possibly the most widely used microphone for live vocals. It was introduced in 1966, and it has been an industry standard ever since. The SM58 comes in two different incarnations, ...
Pros: Great sounding! Rugged! Low price! A good feel! Cons: None other than you need to purchase the foam sock/wind-screen separately.
There is no question in my mind that Shure has produced some of the finest phono cartridges over the years. The company's legendary V-15 series along with the fabulous M91E, M91ED, M95ED, M97ED, M75ED Type II, M72B and other famous "Hi-Track" ...
Pros: great sound
great looking
durable
reliable Cons: I find this mic to be one of the best in my small arsenal.
This is a great microphone for vocals, but choose something different for miking anything other than. At the time that I bought this mic, I was looking for something cheap, and at least better sounding than a karaoke mic :-) and it was recommended by a f ...
Pros: Built to last, great for the price Cons: often talked about as the only vocal microphone out there.
There is no doubt that the SM-58's reputation is well deserved and that it is a great microphone for the price. I always have a few 57's and 58's as a "go to" mic when needed and both perform decently in a variety of close micing applications....and man ...

and is well respected Cons: Prices could be a bit lower,
SM 58, If you do not know what this is then you have probably not been in the music industry very long.Just look at an hour or so of music videos and you should see plenty being used. I have been reading a lot of 58 bashing in the last couple of ...
Shure SM58-a professional stage microphone standard by homestudioguy ,Apr 06 '06
Pros: A no-brainer if you are looking for a $100 vocal mic for stage use. Cons: The required XLR microphone cable is generally not included.
The Shure SM-58 has been in use by churches, schools, garage bands, multi-platinum recording stars, sound stages, professional contract sound companies and even in recording studios for years. In fact, I was selling these in music retail in the 70's and they were "The" stage vocal mic back then. They are built like a tank and Shure is one of oldest as well as one of the top pro-audio manufacturers in the US.
The Standard in Vocal Microphones by rigbybromley ,Apr 29 '04
Pros: Durable, inexpensive, no phantom power needed.
Makes good singers sound great! Cons: Will not make bad singers sound better!!
Are you are reading this to find a good vocal microphone? You've found it with the SM-58. Nobody has anything bad to say about this microphone in this price range. This mic is the standard for live vocal performance. It will also pass for studio work, but definitely not the first choice (think Neumann). If your looking for an instrument mic try the SM-57, it's based on the same bulletproof design as the SM-58 and tailored for instruments.
Lightly brush your SM-58 with mouthwash after use to keep it fresh and clean, especially the punk band spitters out there!
Shure sm58, best for the money by drummerman ,Dec 05 '03
Pros: Sounds good, affordable, I could go all day. Cons: None that I can think of
I was looking around at guitar center one day and the guy behind the counter highly recommended the Shure sm58 mic. I went home and everybody I knew that owned a mic recommended it.
I use it for backup vocals in my band, and boy does it sound good. A professionally sounding mic for about $100, some deal! You can spend up to 5000 dollars on a good sounding mic, but you dont need to unless you have the money. This mic is affordable and sounds almost as good as those expensive mics. And plus its a Shure, Shure has the best line of mics made.
So, what can I say, it was well worth the money.
