Pros: - Sound
- End user replaceable cable Cons: - Unreliable, breaks easily
- Comfort (vice like grip unless broken in)
I purchased these headphones for home use, as an everyday headphone. I plan to keep my Grado headphones mainly for rock music. Sources that I have tested these headphones with: - Computer as source EMU0404(Pro sound card) -> Monoprice Toslink ...

Nicely built but poor sound quality
by nizwiz ,Oct 10 '06
Pros: Comfortable and well built. Cons: Almost no medium range, too much bass
I bought these headphones based on reviews available on headphones.com and some other sites. Unfortunately I was disappointed with the overall sound quality: too much bass, there's almost no medium range. The vocals seem to be coming from the background..I would definitely not recommend those for classical music or Jazz.

Very Good Looking, But Awful Sound Quality
by audio-freak ,Feb 23 '07
Pros: Comfortable, Sennheiser Name Cons: Too Thick And Warm Sounding, Expensive, Poor Value
Sennheiser is a quality company that makes solid headphones. But unfortunately, they have one really bad line. The HD 4... line. This review would also include the HD410, 435, 465, and this one, the 485, as all have similar poor sound quality. The bass is very good, but overwhemling, and ridiculously warm. And these specific ones sound much too bright, and mixed in with the overpowered bass, makes these sound much too thick sounding. Very disappointing sound quality. These are very comfortable, and have the Sennheiser name and the two year warranty, but sound quality is poor and these are not a good value at all to me. I'd prefer the Beyerdynamic DT231 or Grado SR80 at this pricepoint.

too much bass
by amanieux ,Apr 17 '07
Pros: comfortable, cable can be replaced easily if broken Cons: too much bass
this headphone is comfortable but i notice 2 things about sound :
1/ too much bass in all situations (so sound is warm and pleasant for mid frequencies like voices a but becomes terrible with low frequency sounds
2/ very sensitive to high frequencies ( i had an opera sound were i almost only heard a hi frequency hiss, i know this comes from the old opera recording but none of my other headphones (including my hd280pro) reproduced this hiss at such a high volume)
what is nice is that the cable is 2 male jack at both end so if it get broken it can be replaced with any cable.
